Smoking statistics worldwide are surprising. It comprises of details about how many people smoke, which age group, what percentage of men and women smoke, smoking related diseases suffered by people, and how much money is spent on smoking. Recent research revealed that the smoking statistics for the United States is the most frightening among all i.e. In the United States, 25 million men and 20 million women smoke and it is still rising.
Smoking Kills
• Globally 1 in 10 adults died due to smoking related diseases i.e. around 4 million deaths. Thus if the same rate continues, then by the year 2030, one in six people gets killed by smoking.
• One in every 5 youngsters (aged 13-15) smoke worldwide
• Nearly about a third of the male adult population smokes globally
• 3 quarters of world’s chronic bronchitis deaths are related to smoking
• 10 million cigarettes are sold every minute
• Cigarette smoke consist of 11 chemical compounds that are responsible for causing cancer

• Tobacco smoke contains more than 4000 toxic chemicals or carcinogens including carbon monoxide, arsenic, heroin, methadone, amphetamines and barbiturates.
• 50% people who start smoking in adolescent years go on to smoke for 15 to 20 years
