Second Hand smoke – harmful effects

The ill effects of smoking cigarettes are very harmful; the damage of cigarette smoking most often happens in the respiratory tract and the circulatory system and can also lead to illnesses like cancer, heart and lung disease.  Unfortunately, it is not only the smoker who is affected but anyone near the smoker is also in danger – this is secondhand smoke where a non-smoker is forced to inhale the smoke which comes from the person who smokes.  This is also called passive smoking which is very harmful to people close to him while he smokes especially if the smoker often smokes indoors which exposes others in the room to the cigarette smoke.

When a family member smokes continuously in front of other members, it can be very harmful especially in children as their body is still developing and they can succumb to the effects of smoking. If you live with a smoker the effects of secondhand smoke are much deadlier.  The dangers the secondhand smoke brings is that the arteries of your heart age faster and has to work harder by pumping more blood due to lack of oxygen and the presence of carbon monoxide thus making the heart deteriorate tremendously each time you inhale cigarette smoke.  The lungs are more vulnerable to a lot of lung diseases like cough, asthma attacks, complicated chronic obstructive pulmonary diseases, immune system gets weak etc.  There are many more ill-effects of secondhand smoke.

Therefore, it is important for a smoker to quit smoking and live a healthy life not only for him but also his family and people surrounding him.
